Why choose therapyspace.online?

All of us experience times in our lives when we need some help and support for an issue that might be troubling us or holding us back. At therapyspace.online there will be a safe and confidential space to address these issues with me, a professional counsellor and therapist. 

The types of concerns we can work on together include:

  • Recovery from abuse and trauma

We are all individuals and you may feel that what is troubling you does not fit into any of these categories. If you wish to contact me, we can discuss my service further and you can decide if this is the right place for you.

How Does Therapyspace.online Work?

 





I like to work in a variety  of ways, exploring with you to find the right way to work online that suits you, my client. You may like to have a safe, confidential space to talk either by webcam or by audio with a professional who provides you with support and can help you think about the issues that are difficult for you.   Or you may like to write, either by email or by live chat and express yourself by text so I, as a trained professional therapist, can respond to you. 


Whether you choose to work with me by chat, email, webcam or audio, I work to provide you with a safe space where you feel valued and listened to as my client. 

Together we can create a secure space where your concerns can be considered.

The great thing about working together online is that we can start using one particular method, such as emails, and at a later stage, after discussion together, we can move to another method such as instant chat or video conferencing.

Introducing Avatar Therapy Using ProReal
ProReal is an avatar-based, virtual-world software platform which helps people communicate and improve their lives by accelerating insight and change.
Built using 3D gaming technology, this immersive platform helps people create a visual representation of how they experience a situation so they can explore different perspectives, visualise futures and solve problems. Clients enter a secure, virtual landscape and add avatars and props to create representations of real-world scenarios.
Clients experience increased self-awareness and rapid empathy building leading to improved relationships. Its use is associated with significant reductions in stress and self-criticism. Development is underpinned by extensive, ongoing research in clinical and corporate environments.

Web cam


We can create a safe and secure space using the web cam. We would have a 50 minute session, usually at a regular time each week, but we can discuss that further when you contact me.
I would ask you to download zoom.us which is free video conferencing software and I will provide support to do this. Whyzoom.us? Keeping your therapy space secure and confidential is at the heart of my work with you. Other video conferencing softwares, such as Skype, are not confidential and secure and are not fit for use for therapy.  
About ten minutes before our session is due to start, I will email you an invitation to join a meeting with me and you can then click on the invite and join me for our session together.
As there can be times when either your or my internet is experiencing problems, I will agree a backup plan with you. This could be using text messaging using a mobile phone. This will be agreed between us at the very start of working together.

Audio 


Audio sessions are an alternative way of working together. I like to use the audio option on the zoom.us site as that provides the security for your therapy session with me. If you wish to use your mobile or landline, then we can discuss this at the start. 

Audio sessions will also last for 50 minutes and we will agree a date and time.

Instant chat


You may wish to have your 50 minute session as instant chat. It might be that you prefer chat to the audio or to video conferencing. Many find this a very useful way to talk about and explore their issues.

For instant chat, I again would use zoom.us and ask you to download that beforehand. I will email you and send you an invite to join the chat session on zoom.us about 10 minutes before our session is due to start and you can click on the invitation link just before our session starts.

Emails


You may prefer to write and send me your email. If you find you can express yourself by writing, then we can agree a day and time for you to email me and then also agree a day and time for me to respond, usually this is 48 hours after I receive your email. This gives me time to think about what you have written carefully and respond thoughtfully.
I would ask you to write your emails in a word document that you password protect so it is safe and confidential. I would then ask you to send me your password by software called wetransfer. I use wetransfer for sending passwords as it is a safe and confidential way. I will provide support for setting up wetransfer.

 Getting started

When you first contact me, we can discuss what it is you want from your sessions with me, as well as your preferred way of having these sessions together.
If you decide that this is the right place for you, then I will send you my contract and also an information page so you can tell me a bit more about yourself before we get started. Anything you send me will be kept confidentially and securely. You can download both these documents by clicking on the links above.
I will then provide support to get the software you need set up and then we should be ready to start.
If at a later stage you decide to change the way we have sessions together, then after we've discussed this, we can try out other ways that suit you. 

Creating Your  Confidential and Secure Therapy Space


Your Privacy Matters - so here's how I comply to GDPR. When we set up your therapy sessions with me I will send you an Agreement document that explains how I keep your confidentiality. In this way you are giving your informed consent to having therapy with me online and to my holding any personal information necessary for the online therapy sessions.  Any personal information you give me will always be password protected and saved onto an external hard drive. Any paper information I keep is locked into a safe filing box. You can discuss any of this more with me in our therapy sessions.
